The recent restyling of the Lada Grant did not save the most affordable car on the Russian market from its inherent shortcomings, but in small things it became more convenient. It’s a pity that not all the improvements of Lada Grant 2019 turned out to be with a plus sign.

Until recently, we thought that it would be naive to count on something “designer” in the most affordable segment. Steve Mattin buried this stereotype with his Vesta and Xrey. Grant was painted before he joined AvtoVAZ, and now the eminent artist has improved the appearance of the car as best he could.
The signature «X-style» of VAZ cars has also reached the budgetary Grants. She goes!
It turned out great. Now not everyone can distinguish Anfas Grant from Vesta, which is one and a half times more expensive.
The main thing is that the «boomerangs» do not lose their presentation by the third or fourth winter. So far, Togliatti residents, alas, have problems with the quality of chrome elements.
The style of the stern was radically revised only for the sedan. He needed it more than other body types. Transferring the niche for the number from the bumper to the trunk lid saved the rear from visual heaviness. It was not even necessary to change the shape of the lamps: the Granta sedan became more harmonious.

Granta’s update is immediately noticeable when viewed from the front, but from other angles and in the cabin, the results of the work done are not so obvious. There are many differences, although everything was done with little bloodshed. For example, they didn’t spend money on a new dashboard — they took it from the abolished Kalina with minimal modifications.
Vazovtsy modernized the gear levers and the parking brake. The latter, shining with bare metal, needed this especially acutely.
The instrument cluster was adjusted to the latest Lada novelties. Now Granta has radial digitization and orange accents. The old-fashioned display with a green background has given way to a stylish black and white. Interior lighting is LED, and the ceiling is combined with an emergency call button. They didn’t even forget about the seat upholstery — it now has a different pattern. It seems to be a trifle, but against its background, the pre-styling Grant seems like an alien from the distant past.

With practicality, Granta has always been in perfect order. Crossover clearance, low cost of maintenance, a good range of available options — the car retained all these virtues after the update.
A seal along the leading edge of the hood became a useful acquisition. It is designed to reduce the amount of dirt that gets from the road to the units. Looking at the editorial Grant with a mileage of 100,000 km, I confidently assert: modernization is necessary!
Finally, Togliatti began to introduce electric trunk opening buttons! Granta hadn’t had her for seven years.
And the replacement of the dashboard gave the driver an extra glove compartment. A small box with a lid is located in the center under the windshield. The old car had an open niche there. Having absorbed the Kalina family, Lada Granta began to be offered in four body types (sedan, hatchback, liftback, station wagon). The fifth one will soon appear — a pseudo-crossover made on the basis of a station wagon. No one else in the class has such an assortment.
Liftback is the most harmonious in appearance and, perhaps, the most practical body type from the Granta range. The station wagon would be preferable for those who like to load to the eyeballs, if it were not for the shortened feed, which deprived the car of part of the useful internal volume.
Power units — also for every taste. There is a tax-friendly 87-horsepower eight-valve that drives the car surprisingly cheerfully. There is a choice of two automated transmissions: a VAZ robot with one clutch (already in version 2.0) or a classic Jatco automatic.
There is the same set of 14 kits for each body type. And by the way, after restyling, two levels of equipment are available for the machine, Comfot and Luxe.

Vesta-style headlights look beautiful, no doubt. However, lamps with H19 base work in them. This is exotic even in Moscow, but the lion’s share of the Grant is distributed throughout the provinces. In addition to the mistake with the type of lamps, the headlights of the updated Granta have one more drawback. They do not shine in the best way, but this is active safety!
The owners of the updated Grants can take comfort in the fact that handles similar in shape are installed on BMWs of the latest generations — from the relatively democratic three-ruble note to the flagship X-seventh.
